Veteran's Ally Program

The Dean of Students office have collaborated with others to create the VETS program. As part of that program, we are forming a cadre of faculty and staff who will serve as allies for veteran students. The responsibility of an Ally is to reach out via email to new veteran students offering a welcome and assistance as needed.

The Ally will check in with the vet 3-4 times a semester so vets will know they are valued and have a place to turn if needed. If the Ally needs assistance with resource referral or additional support is needed for the students, our office stands ready to work with the Ally and the student.

At UNCG, we are aware of the challenges a veteran faces that are inherent in the transition back to civilian life. The Ally program supports the student veterans’ transition into the community and enhances their overall experience at UNCG.

The program we have developed has at its core, the assignment of a personal ally who will work with the veteran during their transition. The Ally will serve as a source of information and support as the veteran goes through the road of completing their degree.

What does it take to be an Ally?

  • Employed at UNCG
  • Committed to student success
  • Interest in supporting veterans
  • Time and energy to email your assigned veteran(s) 3-4 times per semester
  • Serve as a resource regarding UNCG programs and services
  • UNCG Cares (training provided)

Please let us know if you are willing to serve as a VETS Ally by completing the Ally Contact Form. If you have any questions please email jagreen@uncg.edu
