The Dean of Students and Office Staff
The Dean of Students Office in the Division
of Student Affairs works with students, their families, faculty and staff in creating and sustaining a culture of care at UNCG. Assistance is provided to students in matters related to advocacy for any student in distress, student conduct violations, academic integrity concerns, advocacy, and sexual harassment or assault. The office also is responsible for administering the University's policies and procedures regarding student conduct.

- Jen Day Shaw, Ph.D.

Dean of Students
Jen Day Shaw has been involved in higher education for over 18 years. Dr.
Shaw earned her Ph.D. in Higher Education from Florida State University.
Prior to UNCG, some of Jen's professional experience included positions
as Division Chair, Student Services at Davidson County Community College;
Dean, Student Relations at the University of South Florida; and Dean of
Students at the Savannah College of Art and Design. She has taught university
experience courses to first year students and several different courses
to student affairs M.Ed. students. Her professional interests are to initiate
student-centered services that enhance students' development, as well as
student advocacy. In addition to the Dean's office, Jen supervises the Office of Disability Services, Office of Orientation and Family Programs and the Office for Adult Students.

- Dr. Brett Carter
Associate Dean of Students
Brett Carter has been involved in higher education for over 16 years. Dr. Carter earned his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Prior to working in the Dean of Students Office, Brett worked in the Office of Housing and Residence Life (UNCG) as an Area Director (2 years) and as an Assistant Director (6 years). Brett previously worked as an Area Coordinator for High Point University for 5 years. His interests include student advocacy, service learning and leadership, the first-year experience, multicultural affairs, and student academic integrity. He has taught university experience courses to first year students and courses for nontraditional students at a four-year, private university. Brett’s professional organization involvements include the North Carolina College Personnel Association (NCCPA), the North Carolina Housing Officer Association (NCHO), and the Association of Student Judicial Affairs (ASJA). His professional interests are to engage students in educational discourse about personal values, accountability, citizenship, and positive decision-making.

- Amy Jones
Assistant Dean of Students
Amy Jones has been
involved in higher education for over 9 years. She earned her M.Ed. degree with a concentration in
College Student Affairs from the University of South Florida in 2001. While at USF, she worked in
Residence Life. Amy joins us after serving as the Director of Student Activities at Elon University
where she also coordinated the Sexual Assault Response Team. Amy also has professional experience in Community Service, Orientation, Greek Life, Leadership Development, and Club and Organization Development.

- Mary Anderson
Assistant Dean of Students
Mary Anderson has been involved in higher education for over 11 years. Her experiences include working in the areas of Admissions, Residence Life, and Student Conduct. Mary graduated from the University of South Florida with a Master of Education degree, emphasizing study in College Student Affairs. Since earning her M. Ed., Mary has had the opportunity to work with students in a variety of educational settings including as a Resident Director for the global study abroad program Semester at Sea. Mary joins UNCG following her employment at San Diego State University where she worked as a University Judicial Officer focusing on Greek life and off-campus conduct.

- Joshua Green

Student Services Manager
Joshua Green graduated from UNCG in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems & Operations Management. He served in the United States Army for 5 years as military police officer which included assisting the United States Secret Service. Prior to joining Student Affairs, Joshua worked in the University Registrar's Office as an Operations Specialist and previously in the Academic Systems & Student Achivement office as the Banner Student Trainer. He is currently in the M.Ed in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education program at UNCG. Joshua's interest include the VETS program, the North Carolina College Personnel Association (NCCPA), and student advocacy.

- Megan Callahan
Graduate Student
Megan recently graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida
with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Minor in Spanish. She received Phi Beta Kappa her junior year. She
spent her career at UF serving as a student advocate at the
Women's Resource Center. She was also an office assistant at Family Counseling and Health
Associates in Gainesville. She is attending UNCG to pursue a
Master of Science degree in Counseling and Educational Development.

- Ethan Hutchinson
Graduate Student
Ethan graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2006 with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Parks and Tourism and a Minor in Spanish. His undergraduate honors include induction to Golden Chain Honorary Society, the Pamela A. Wilson Memorial Multicultural Award, and the Georgia Cooper Moore Service Leadership Award. He taught at Ramseur Elementary school for two years in fourth and first grades before returning for his master's work. He is attending UNCG to pursue a Master of Education degree in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education.
